Privacy policy

We are committed to handling it in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

What we collect

  • When you contact us or submit a form (list a business, request a product check, report an issue, submit an event, request a review, claim a listing): your name, email, phone number, the details you provide, and any photo or document you upload.
  • Reviews and community confirmations: your name or first name as you enter it, your rating and comments, the date of your visit, and any certificate photo.
  • Email alerts and our weekly digest: your email address and which products or topics you asked to follow.
  • Accounts (visitors and business owners): your name, email, password (stored encrypted), favourites, scan history you choose to sync, and for business owners, the listings you manage and changes you make.
  • Payments: payments for featured listings are processed by Stripe. We receive confirmation of payment and your email, but never your card details.
  • Your location: if you use “Near me” or prayer times, your browser shares an approximate location. It is rounded to about 100 metres on your device and used only to sort results or calculate times. We do not store it.
  • On your device: favourites, scan history and preferences are stored in your browser so the site works without an account. You can clear them at any time in your browser settings.
  • Usage and technical data: our servers record standard logs (IP address, browser, pages requested) for security. We count anonymous events such as page views, searches and barcode scans to improve the site; these counts are not linked to you. [If you enable Google Analytics or Plausible, describe it here.]
  • Push notifications: if you turn them on, your browser gives us a subscription address used only to send the notifications you chose.

Why we collect it

To run the guide; respond to you; verify listings and claims; send alerts and digests you asked for; let business owners manage listings; process payments; keep the site secure and prevent spam; and meet legal obligations.

Who we share it with

We do not sell personal information. We share it only with service providers who help us run the site, including: our web host ([Host name, location]); our email delivery service ([provider]); Stripe (payments); Cloudflare (spam protection); OpenStreetMap tile servers (maps — your browser requests map images directly); Open Food Facts (we send only a barcode when looking up a product, never your details); and your browser’s push service (Google, Apple or Mozilla) if you enable notifications. Some of these providers are located overseas, including in the United States and the European Union.

Business listing details you submit for publication (business name, address, phone, hours, photos) are published on the site. Reviews and confirmations are published with the name you provide.

Security and retention

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), access controls and regular backups. We keep form submissions for [24 months] unless needed longer for a listing, a dispute, or legal reasons; email subscriptions until you unsubscribe; and accounts until you ask us to delete them.

Your choices

Every email includes an unsubscribe link. You can turn off notifications in your browser. You can ask us to access, correct or delete your personal information by emailing [email protected]. We will respond within 30 days.

Complaints

If you have a privacy concern, contact us first at [email protected]. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

Who we are

Our website address is: https://halalverified.com.au.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Who we share your data with

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where your data is sent

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

Changes

We may update this policy and will post the new version here. Last updated: 28 oct 2026.
