How we verify

Halalverified is a community guide. Our aim is to give you clear, honest information so you can make your own informed choice.

What each status means

  • Halal — we have current evidence that the product or place is halal: usually a valid certificate from a recognised certifying body, or for uncertified products, a review of every ingredient and its source.
  • Not Halal — we have specific evidence that it contains something not permissible (for example pork-derived gelatine, lard or wine), or the manufacturer has confirmed this. We always record the reason, and show it under “Why we say this”.
  • Doubtful — an ingredient could come from a halal or a non-halal source and we could not confirm which. Scholars may also differ on some ingredients.
  • Not verified — we have not checked it yet. This is not a judgement either way.

Our evidence

Every status is backed by a recorded source: a certificate we have seen, the certifier’s own published list, a written statement from the manufacturer, the halal logo on current packaging, or an ingredient-by-ingredient review. We note the date it was last checked. We never publish a product as Not Halal or Doubtful without written evidence on file.

Keeping it current

  • Certificates have expiry dates. When a restaurant’s certificate expires, its Verified badge is removed automatically until a new one is provided.
  • Recipes and suppliers change. Products are re-checked when we are told about a change, and periodically.
  • Community members confirm places are still halal and send photos of certificates on display. These help us, but a community report alone never changes a status — our team checks it first.

Independence

Businesses can pay to be Featured. Featured places are always labelled, and payment never affects a halal status, a rating, or the order of normal search results.

Ingredient guidance

Our ingredient guide explains common additives and E-numbers. It is general guidance, not a religious ruling. For rulings, please consult a qualified scholar.

Corrections and right of reply

If you are a manufacturer, retailer or business owner and believe something about you is wrong, please tell us using our right-of-reply form. We aim to respond within 10 business days and will correct errors promptly. Anyone can report a problem using “Something wrong?” on any listing.

Halal information statuses for restaurants and businesses

Third-party certification recorded
The business has given us evidence of halal certification issued by the named certifying body. We show the issuer, what the certificate covers and its expiry date. We record certificates; we are not a certifying body — contact the certifier if you need confirmation.
Documents reviewed
Our team has reviewed halal-related documents from the business (for example supplier certificates). The scope of what we reviewed and the date are shown. This is not a halal certification.
Restaurant-reported halal information
The business has told us about its halal practices, but we have not independently checked the information. Ask staff if you need certainty.
Information incomplete
We don’t have enough information about this place’s halal practices yet.
Review required
Evidence we hold is out of date, disputed or being updated. Check with the business before relying on it.

Answering our questionnaire, paying for a plan or winning a Community Choice Award never changes a status on its own — only evidence reviewed by our team does.
